Email Marketing

Email Marketing, also known as opt-in marketing is the collection of email addresses in exchange for something.  It is actually one of many FREE marketing techniques online but the single most effective way of marketing online.  It's a simple way of saying that you advertise through emails by way of sending them newsletters and what have you.  It's the new-age, free form of advertising.

How does it actually work?

Does this image looks familiar to you or not?  This is the kind of opt-in form that you place in your website so they can sign up.

Email marketing actually works this way:
      1. 1.  People visiting your site is actually interested in what you are promoting and to get regular updates, you ask their permission to join your mailing list.
  1. 2.  Once you've gained their trust, they will actually sign up and give you their email address.
  2. 3.  You then have the go signal to send them your product updates, or any marketing promotions that they may be interested in.
The only thing you need to keep in mind is to keep a good, long-standing relationship with your subscribers by keeping their trust and not use their email addresses to something else.  Keep that trust and not only that you do have the opportunity to connect to this person once but you can continue contacting them over and over again.

Advantages of Email Marketing:

  1. Work once, forever contact.  Once you've made the effort of creating a quality content that made them sign-up for your contact list, you have the opportunity to contact them over and over again unlike the paid version of advertising like Pay-per-click.
  2. Apply it to any niche.  Email marketing allows you to cross-promote the relevant products that your client signed-up for as you have an ongoing communication with your subscribers.
  3. It can be automated.  Automation is the process of making things automatic so you don't have to do it yourself.  Once you have the money from the product conversions, there's actually a tool to pay for to automatically send your emails in a set format, eg. emails being sent daily, then once a week, then twice a month, then every month, and so on depending on what you set it up to.

When you decide to do email Marketing, you have to think about some mistakes to avoid so you can have a successful Email campaign.

Common Mistakes to avoid:

  • Spamming.  As mentioned, emails should only be used to it's original purpose and once it is used to a disadvantage, it gets classified as spam.
  • Poor Follow up.  Follow up in Email Marketing is a must.  You asked for these people to sign up for your updates, newsletter, etc. therefore it is your duty to keep them updated and send follow up messages as well, as you need to keep that trusting relationship.
  • Inability to focus on your market.  People signed up to your list because they were interested in what you were offering.  Avoid sending emails to people whom you know are not interested, avoid the thought that they"might" consider buying as you will not only annoy them but also lose their trust.
